The Sculpture Center is excited to finally announce the winners of its summer juried exhibition, After the Pedestal, the 11th exhibition of small sculpture from the region, on view now through Friday, August 17, 2018.
First Prize: Wade Tullier
Second Prize: Kevin Kegler
Third Prize: Fiona Hoffer
Honorable Mention: Diana Abells, Davin Ebanks, Michael Nashef, and Chris Oliver
Winners were first announced during a private discussion of the exhibition among the artists in the Main Gallery and Euclid Avenue Gallery of The Sculpture Center with juror Cathleen Chaffee, chief curator at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery (Buffalo, New York). After the Pedestal, the 11th exhibition features work by 30 different artists – the highest number of artists we have ever shown in one exhibition to date.
“Being my first time at The Sculpture Center, I was impressed with the spaces within the complex, providing for various options for installation,” says Kevin Kegler, second prize winner. “Although receiving the award was a fine accolade in and of itself, it is especially meaningful coming through The Sculpture Center with the juror being Cathleen Chaffee, curator at the world-renowned Albright-Knox Art Gallery.”
Sculptors, including students, currently living and working in our greater region of Ohio, its contiguous states, and Ontario, Canada, had applied for inclusion in the annual show through an open call in the spring.
“Very little great art evolves without the challenges and support generated from a strong local ecosystem of fellow artists, educators, and art spaces. Clearly such an ecosystem is in place within the region served by the Sculpture Center. It has been a pleasure to have the opportunity to spend time looking at and thinking about the work of all of the artists who submitted for the 2018 After the Pedestal exhibition, and to work with Ann Albano who beautifully oversaw the installation of the show based on my selections for the final exhibition. Although it was difficult to choose from among so many impressive submissions, I hope you will find – as I do – that the works on view capture the humor, pathos, formal beauty, and extraordinary skill present in the work of sculptors from this region. Thank you.”
