The Master Reviews & Collective Discussion takes place on Sunday, June 11 at 10 – noon at The Sculpture Center. This informal, closed to the public event allows sculptors of our region to get to know a successful sculptor outside our region and to link with other sculptors. Open to sculptors currently living and working in our region, not to students.

Steve Locke is an African American artist who explores figuration and perceptions of the male figure, themes of masculinity and homosexuality, and systemic injustices to African Americans through drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and installation art. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio (1963), raised in Detroit, Michigan, and is currently living and working in Boston, Massachusetts, where he teaches at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. He was appointed visiting associate professor of painting at Yale in 2014. He has had recent solo exhibitions at The Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston (then traveled to the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit), Samsøn and Kayafas galleries, Boston, and Mendes Wood gallery, Sao Paolo Brazil. Steve is this year’s juror for After the Pedestal, the 10th exhibition of small sculptor from the region on view at The Sculpture Center June 9 – August 6. Steve’s recent exhibitions, The School of Love and Family Memories (Nov. 2016), have been reviewed in Big, Red and Shiny (Nov. 2, 2016) and Lense Scratch (April 25, 2017), among other publications.
